May is World Trade Month!

Since redwood lumber was first off-loaded at the harbor’s municipal pier in June 1911, trade and the Port of Long Beach have been a center of strength for the Greater Long Beach economy. Today, approximately one in 11 jobs in the City of Long Beach are tied to international trade. About $100 billion in cargo annually flows through the port. To accommodate the ongoing growth in exports and imports, the port continues to develop larger terminals with state-of-the-art equipment. The 2002 opening of the $2 billion, 20-mile Alameda Corridor further strengthened the port, as the rail line triples the speed in which cargo is moved to transcontinental rail yards.

Distribution – The Long Beach Business Journal reaches the vast majority of local businesses involved with the international trade industry: terminal operators, shipping lines, freight forwarders, custom house brokers, maritime attorneys, etc. who are scattered throughout the city. Nearly all of the approximately 300 port tenants receive the LBBJ by mail, as do all tenants of the World Trade Center. The LBBJ’s annual focus on international trade insert is distributed to about 2,000 additional executives at luncheon events in Long Beach and Los Angeles.

This issue will also feature Health & Fitness and Who's Who in Healthcare.
